La Barceloneta: Beaches in Barcelona, Leisure Time

Barceloneta beach is the most centric one of the beaches in Barcelona. It is located on the peninsula with same name: Barceloneta, which is an antique quarter of the city. Once fishermen lived here with their families. Today the quarter is well known for it's gastronomy, nightlife and aquatic sports activities. Close to this beach you find some beach bars, bars, restaurants with terraces, a youth hostel and the cable car "Teleferic de Montjuïc" which takes you up to Montjuïc mountain and also to the castle. One of the most famous meeting points of this beach is a statue consisting of four iron blocks in the centre of the beach.
